Out in Left Field: April 29, 2013

OILF-294x300Over the past few issues – and another one earlier in the year – you might have noticed quite a few female seniors at Pana High School who have signed National Letters of Intent to attend various colleges and play collegiate sports as well.

The most recent was Hannah Funneman who is going to Lincoln Land to play basketball. About a week prior, Kendal Frisina signed with Lake Land College and Nadine Vaughn signing with Parkland College, Champaign. Earlier this year, Charley Lett signed on with McKendree University.

All four of these girls started for Ken Schuster’s basketball Panthers this season. In the years which I have been doing sports for the PN-P, I honestly can’t remember this many girls – well, not just girls – but this many senior athletes at PHS signing letters of intent to play sports.

Congratulations to all of these girls. They are superior athletes – and from every thing I have seen on and off the court are superior young women who have represented their school and hometown with pride and distinction.

–––––

And I’m sure it won’t be long before we hear from the fifth starter on that team, senior Allie Schoonover, as to her future plans. . . .

–––––

Glad to see sunshine and it be warmer today – hope the trend continues, but the forecast doesn’t imply it will happen.

The schedule is crowded for both high school and junior high sports as the calendar pushed forward to the end of the school year.

–––––

And as the calendar continues, the Kentucky Derby is set for its 139th running on Saturday.

One of the big stories this year is a female jockey, Rosie Napravnik, riding one of the favorites for the race, “Mylute.”

–––––

See you next week!

Just can’t keep from sitting and attempting to scribble something to you all out there!

Thus, it is that we’re back to you, after an absence Thursday that we hoped to recharge our batteries.

‘Twas not that we were sick or anything, but out and plain, just got lazy! Not really that either . . . . .

Just feeling down a bit – and we push ourself! And that’s something for FFF to admit.

For, after our family, the Pana News-Palladium associated publications and writing to you all, there’s nothing else that really seems all that important to us.

Well, that’s almost true. But, for instance, watching grandson, “Jake” and his soccer team winning a Sunday game at Tanner Park.

Tom and “Jake” furnished us transportation to Tanner Park where we watched the contest.

The Phillips crowd was joined at field side by grandson-in-law, Josh Bonn, his wife and our granddaughter, “Nikki”, little guest, great-grandson, “J. J.”, 7 months old, Susan and Greg Weddle, daughter, Trish and friend of all, Jeff Copley.

Nice time. The game finished up just in time; few drops began falling.

Our Friendship

In friendship we will always dwell,

For in our hearts it’s cast its spell;

This priceless gift you give to me

Is there for all eternity.

We’re bound in laughter and in tears,

We cherish life’s golden souvenirs;

Close in heart and close in mind,

These are the sweetest ties that bind.

Like a lighthouse is standing bright

As it shines its friendly light,

I let this treasure of friendship blend

Within my heart and call you “friend.”
