Junior High Girls Basketball

The 2015 Pana Junior High School basketball teams begun their season Friday night, Sept. 18, in the Pana Junior High School gym. The eighth grade was a 34-20 winner. There was no score from the seventh grade game.

Pana led, 7-4 after the first quarter, then pulled ahead, 19-8 at halftime.Pana out-scored the visitors 15-12 in the second half.

There were no individual scoring statistics reported.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the girls will be in Blue Mound for games with Meridian.

Final Athletic Handbook Meeting; Practice to Start

The final Athletic Handbook meeting for Pana High School and Pana Junior High School students who plan to participate in sports during the 2015-16 school year will be Sunday, Aug. 9, at 5:00 p.m.

The meeting will be held in the Panthers Den of Pana High School. A student and parent(s)/guardian need to attend just one meeting.

Any IHSA or IESA sports participant must have a handbook meeting, physical, medical treatment form and insurance waiver signed before they can practice.

Practice–

High school football practice starts Monday, Aug. 10. The other high school fall sports – volleyball, boys soccer and boys and girls golf – start practice on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Tryouts for ‘Elite’ Softball Team Aug. 16

Tryouts for the 2015-16 Central Illinois Elite softball team will be held Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Tanner Sports Complex at Third Street and Fairgrounds Road.

Check-in for the 16U team is a 1:00 with tryouts from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Check-in for the 14U team is at 3:15 with tryouts from 4;00-6:00 p.m.

Pana Schools Athletic Handbook Meetings Set

Athletic handbook meetings for Pana High School and Pana Junior High School students who plan to participate in sports during the 2015-16 school year have been scheduled.

Softball Report for Pana 12U

Last Thursday, in Pana 12U softball action, Brunner Auto Supply took on the Hawks and had to hold  on to win a close one, 15-14.

Brunners came out swinging following a Brayer Denton walk. She scored on a steal of home. Madison Cherry hit a triple and drove in Kady Perry, then Cherry stole home to make it 3-0. Kylie Hendrickson, Shelby Edwards and Jadyn Bearup would draw walks. Hendrickson and Edwards each stole home and Ryleigh Koons and Haley Whitlatch had singles and drove in a couple more runs. Lexi Nicol would hit a single, driving in Koons, to make it 7-0.

In the 2nd, the Hawks added 3 runs to narrow the gap but Hendrickson closed out the inning with her 6th strikeout. In their half of the inning, Brunners added to their total with Denton drawing another walk and stealing home again. Perry singled and Hendrickson tripled to bring in Perry. Hendrickson scored on Edwards’ single and would steal home to go up 11-3.

Brunners added another 4 runs as Lexi Sisk, Whitlatch, Kirsten Cravens and Nicol scored on a double by Denton and a single by Cherry.

In the 4th inning with a 15-3 lead, Brunners had some costly errors but Madison Cherry was able to get 2 strikeouts to finish the inning and to stop an 11-run rally as Brunners held on for their third win.

On Friday, Brunners met Pizza Man in Kitchell Park. In a matchup of the undefeated, Pizza Man was able to pull away with a 8-2 win.

Kiley Laddage started for Pizza Man. Brunners had runners on second and third with one out,  but Laddage struck out the next 2 batters and leave the runners stranded.

Madison Cherry started for Brunners. Pizza Man went  on top with Amanda Hunter scoring after drawing a walk and Carsen Sims and Jillian Hamilton added 2 more runs on Laddage’s single.

Brunners got a run with Lexi Sisk scoring, making it a 3-1 game.

In the next inning, Pizza Man loaded the bases with 2 outs, but Cherry pitched out of the jam with a strike out.

With 2 outs in the third, Brayer Denton was walked and later stole home to make it a 3-2 game.

Pizza Man added 5 runs with Leonna Smith, Rachel Holthaus, Ellie Kuhn and Kiley Laddage making it around the bases.

In the final inning, Carsen Sims was on the hill for Pizza Man. Hendrickson reached for Brunners on a walk but would be stranded on third to seal the win for Pizza Man.

Peoples Bank traveled to Forest Park to take on the Shelbyville Hawks. Behind good defense and pitching by Alivia Reed, Peoples Bank was able to get their bats going for a 19-7 win, their second victory in a row.

12U Softball Report

Peoples Bank hosted Ramsey Rams in Kitchell Park in Pana. Peoples came out swinging the bats and got backed up with some good pitching to win 17-5 for their first win of the season last week.

Pizza Man (1-0) traveled to play the Hawks at Forest Park in Shelbyville and destroyed the opposition, 20-1.

On Thursday, Brunner Auto made up a game against the Hawks in Kitchell Park and escaped with a 15-14 win.

Pana JFL Sign-Up June 5-6

Pana Junior Football League will hold a sign-up for the fall football season from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 5 and 9:00 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 6, at First Church of the Nazarene, Sixth Street and Fairgrounds Road.

Students in the fifth through eighth grades this coming school year in the Pana and Tower Hill area are eligible to sign up.

A child may not turn 15 years of age before Sept. 1, 2015 to be eligible.

In order to sign up, parents will need to sign a medical release form, fill out an application and pay a $50 participation fee. A copy of the child’s birth certificate, along with proof of physical exam will be needed before they practice.

2015 Pana Soccer Registration

Registration is now open for the 2015 Pana Soccer League season. All children, kindergarten through eighth grade in the 2015-2016 school year, are welcome to play.

Register at www.panasoccer.com before June 15, and PSL will waive the $2 service charge for credit/debit cards. Children are welcome to sign up for the fall recreational soccer program, camp and competitive traveling teams. Three on three tournament forms are also available online.

Online registration is encouraged and preferred.  For those unable to register online, registration will be held at the Tanner Park Pavilion Monday through Thursday, June 1-4 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and Monday and Tuesday, June 20-21 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Children must be registered with the Pana Soccer League before July 31 in order to be placed on a team.  Children who register after July 31 will be placed on a waiting list and placed on teams if/as positions become available.  For more information, log on to www.panasoccer.com or call 562-4073.
