Tower Hill Teen Injured In Moweaqua Accident

JAMIE WINTER, 18, OF Tower Hill was injured in a two-vehicle accident on U. S. Route 51 at the Main St. intersection in Moweaqua shortly after 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29. She was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield by the Air Evac helicopter seen above.

The Illinois State Police report listed her injuries as serious.

According to the state police report, Winter’s auto was westbound on Shelby County Road 2800N and failed to yield at the stop sign at the intersection. Her car was struck by a northbound FedEx tractor-trailer, driven by 58-year-old Dennis Walser of Williamsville. He was not injured in the accident, according to the report.

The truck struck the driver’s side of the Winter vehicle. Emergency personnel had to extricate her from the car.

Both the north and south bound lanes of Rt. 51 were closed for about an hour due to the accident.
