Two Airlifted After Saturday Accident On Route 51

TWO DRIVERS WERE air lifted to a Springfield hospital following a two vehicle accident on U. S. Route 51, about a mile north of the “S” curve near County Road 700N.

According to the Illinois State Police the accident occurred about 12:53 p.m ., Saturday, Sept. 24, pick up truck, driven by Jeffrey Hunter, 50, of Tower Hill was southbound on Route 51, crossed the center line and struck head-on the northbound car driven by Max Balding, 84, Albion. Both drivers sustained what authorities described as non-life threatening injuries.

The accident is under investigation and no citations were issued.

Illinois State Police, the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, Air Evac Helicopter, and the Pana and Assumption fire departments responded to the accident.

The highway had closures for approximately four hours following the accident.
